Artist in Conversation – Nefateri Asantewa (Middle Passage Remembered)
About the Event
As part of a Two-Week Immersive Fine Art & Digital Art Experience
Created & Curated by Nefateri Asantewa in collaboration with Elitha’s by NIAS Fine Art Gallery
Overview
A conversation inspired by Netateri’s collection Middle Passage Remembered – an immersive art experience exploring the journey, memory and continuing legacy of the transatlantic trafficking and enslavement of African people.
The experience brings together original fine art, mixed media, digital art, augmented reality, sound and immersive storytelling to create an exhibition that audiences do not simply look at, but move through and experience.
While the work begins with the Middle Passage, the exhibition does not end there.
A central part of this two-week experience the Artist in Conversation Roundtable will explore a question that feels increasingly important:
What did the Middle Passage leave behind, and where can we still see and feel its legacy today?
The exhibition will invite visitors to consider how histories of enslavement, colonialism, displacement and resistance continue to echo through contemporary life — sometimes in ways that are visible, and sometimes in ways we may not immediately recognise.
